Communication Disorders Program
Clientele:
Children between 0 and 18 years of age with a significant and
persistent communication disorder, and diagnosed with:
- A speech and language disorder
- A severe language delay
- An Auditory Processing Disorder (APD)
- Stuttering
Services offered:
- Assessment of the child’s function and developmental level
- Interventions supporting the child’s development
- Psychosocial support for the child and his/her family
- Parent workshops and support groups
- Support for integration into daycare, school and leisure
activities
- Timely consultations for school-age children and their
family
- Assessment, counselling and training for the use of technical
aids
A multidisciplinary team of professionals working in
collaboration to respond to the needs identified by the
client/parents from the following disciplines:
- Audiology
- Occupational Therapy
- Psychoeducation
- Psychology
- Special Care Counselling
- Speech & Language Pathology
- Social Work
Types of interventions:
- Individual therapy
- Group interventions
Services are offered:
- At the Mackay site
- In the child’s environment (home ,daycare, school)
Other services and partnerships:
- Service for Assistive Technology: Communication
- Camp Massawippi Summer camp, a fully adapted residential summer
camp located in the Eastern Townships
- Mackay Centre School, a specialized English Montreal School
Board school housed at the Mackay site
To access services:
- To be eligible to receive services, the child must be diagnosed
with a speech and language disorder, a severe language delay, an
auditory processing disorder or stuttering and report persistent
and significant difficulties in executing life habits as a result
of the communication disorder.
- The referral source must include the speech pathology report
(speech and language disorder, severe language delay) or an
audiology report (auditory processing disorder)or a medical or
speech and language referral specifying persistent stuttering, as
well as any other pertinent report with the Request for Services
Form (DSIE Form for professionals working within the Health and
Social Services Network).
- All documents must be sent to Admissions.
