Dysphagia and
Feeding Disturbance Clinic
The Dysphagia and Feeding Disturbance Clinic is designed to
assist families and therapist involved with children and youth who
present with significant and persistent swallowing and feeding
problems.
Clientele:
- Children between 0 and 17 years of age (or 18 to 21 years
of age if still attending high school), with a complex swallowing
or feeding problem in the context of a physical or sensorial
impairment.
- Client actively followed at the Centre
Services offered:
This monthly clinic involves a multidisciplinary assessment to
aid in the identification of factors potentially contributing to or
aggravating swallowing and feeding problems. The clinical findings
and recommendations for management of the swallowing and feeding
problem are discussed with the family immediately following the
assessment.
A multidisciplinary team of professionals working in
collaboration to respond to the needs identified by the
client/parents from the following disciplines:
- Nutritionist
- Occupational Therapy
- Pediatrics
- Psychology
Links with the child’s medical treating team are made to
encourage a global view of the problems and ensure continuity
between the partners. When necessary referrals to other specialists
are made in conjunction with the implicated hospitals.
Treating therapists are responsible of the implementation of the
recommendations of the Dysphagia and Feeding Disturbance Clinic.
A follow up visit with the Clinic's specialist is available. It may
be for coaching on rehabilitation techniques, reviewing of medical
results, for education or support to the family, or for
professionals according to the needs.

completed by the therapists and parents
