Rehabilitation: Pathways to Independence

CHSLD Gilman Residence

The Gilman Residence was a long-term care unit for blind and visually impaired seniors who required 0.5 to 1.5 hours of nursing care per day.

The MAB-Mackay received official word from the Agence des services de santé et des services sociaux (Regional Heath Board for Montreal) on June 16, 2009 about their intention to close CHSLD Gilman residence by March 2010. The residence was officially closed at the end of April 2010.

The closure of Gilman is part of an overall restructuring of the delivery of health care services to seniors, which began on October 24, 2007. Since that time seniors requiring less than 2.5 hours of daily care have been oriented towards intermediate resources as opposed to CHSLD’s as in the past.
