Welcome, to the MAB-Mackay Rehabilitation Centre Computer News link. Have you ever had a question about adaptive technology in general or wondered about whether upgrades exist for your current adaptation? Have you ever encountered a problem with your adaptive equipment and had to wait for one of our technicians to call? The link was created to provide MAB-Mackay clients with answers to these questions and for staff to post solutions to common problems related to computer adaptations and their use.

Perhaps the answer to your question or problem is listed below. Read through the table of contents to find topics of interest to you. Each update is dated so you will know when it was posted on the site.

1. Computer Maintenance and Security
   
   
   The maintenance and security of your computer and its contents are of utmost importance. Information is provided below regarding: anti-virus software, viruses and their removal and Microsoft® Windows Critical Updates.

   1. Anti-virus software
      
      
      Anti-virus software should be installed and updated regularly on your computer whether you use the Internet, or share files stored on a variety of storage media (e.g. diskettes, burned compact disks, pocket USB drives, etc.). For information on available products, installation, or on updating your software, please contact your MAB-Mackay computer trainer.

   3. Microsoft® Windows Critical Updates
      
      
      In order to keep your computer system and its data safe, Microsoft® provides updates to their Windows operating systems on-line. These updates can be accessed by clicking on your start button, choosing All Programs, and clicking on Windows Update
      
      NOTE: Only download the “critical” updates (Windows XP) or “important” updates (Windows Vista or Windows 7) from the Windows Update page. Other available updates may not be compatible with your adaptive technology and should be avoided. For additional information, please contact your MAB-Mackay computer trainer.
